In modular collections, sockets and switches are sold separately from the frames. This is handy: a block by the bed, above the worktop or next to the TV can be put together exactly as you need, and the frame colour can be chosen to match the modules or to contrast with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What a gang is<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A gang is the place for one module in a frame. One switch, one socket, one Ethernet socket or one blank plate takes up one gang. A 3-gang frame holds three modules in a row, and each module has its own back box in the wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have more than five modules, fit two frames side by side or split the block into two zones \u2014 for example, power sockets in one and low-voltage sockets in the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each additional gang adds about 71 mm \u2014 this is the centre-to-centre spacing for the back boxes of a multi-gang frame. Tell your electrician about this before installation: back boxes placed “by eye” will have to be redone. Ultra Slim Series<\/a> frames also come in 1\u20135 gangs, and their dimensions are listed on each frame’s product page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spare gang<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If there is space left in the frame or you are planning a module “for the future”, fill the gang with a blank plate<\/a>: the block will look complete, and later the blank plate can be replaced with a socket or a switch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
